And it's Blu-ray Disc (yes, without e and with hypen) if you so must uphold the wikipedia standards. To back that up, google the BDA website.

we have 2 titles in blu-ray audio, hi-resolution has won indeed - please take a chill pill yourself and stop trolling in sacd wikipedia article.

PS Could you post a complete list of blu-ray audio titles released by Sony in may?

Here's the thing: In the Wikipedia, accusations of "trolling" don't cut it. Only references cut it.

To answer your question, here is a list of SACD music releases:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?genre=music

Yes, they also have video, but, Blu-Ray's audio is as good as DVD-A's audio.

Anyway, I will add the one reference to Japan's releases and SA-CD's list to the talk page of the Wikipedia article.

It looks like people aren't willing to have a reasonable discussion here, so I'm leaving. Until people can become less emotional and more able to back things up with references, I don't have time to waste with you guys.

Take care, and if you want to continue talking to me, I'll see you on the Wikipedia.

Yes, they also have video,

they also have video, because they are video concerts.

I have also added a note on the talk page that SACD isn't entirely dead

ROTFLMAO! This is the reason why Wikipedia is an unreliable source. Bias and unvetted Know-It-All fascist editors.

For example, try to add a legitimate link with a legitimate user account to the ACORN entry.

Wikipedia is nothing more than a fascist propaganda site.

Pity. I had hoped you'd stick around and learn something about what you're writing about. While I understand that Wikipedia is reliant on references and citations, you can find such references to support any slant you want to take. Just ask David Irving. It all comes down to whether the Wikipedia entry is informative and credible, something I'll leave to others to judge.

So, SACD is around for years already. But why do I still see shops selling CDs and just a few SACDs? Also I bet many people don't ever heard of SACD... All I'm hoping is for a really good high resolution audio format (and preferably, a physical medium) to replace audio CD [quality] (not poisoned with DRM). SACD has got to be the best.

What's stopping SACD from a breakthrough? Are we stuck with CD quality sound forever? (or far worse, MP3).

Is SACD adoption growing or does it look uncertain?

It looks uncertain, but in 2009, I think, it has grown a little from previous years. (Of course not compared to 2000-2003...)

I think the majority of people value convenience over quality these days. I know people who have simply MP3'ed their entire music collections (at 128k) and thrown out the CDs.

So, SACD is at risk, sure, but so is any physical format.

millions of people who switched to ipods and mp3s,

small in number, but very vocal and active group of CD defenders,

and last but not least, confused record labels which are taking billion dollar losses each year but don't know what to do about it...

New SACD titles added to sa-cd.net (through November of respective year)

2006....701
2007....644
2008....567
2009....532

Figures are from the end of November 2009.

Given the recent economic problems worldwide and the proliferation of (evil) downloads, this is actually not a bad year for SACD.

as far as i remember the new sacd titles for 2008 and 2009
on the sa-cd.net are approximately the same:

2008....600
2009....598 (so far)

i counted the new titles at the end of each year since 2007.
i took each title on this homepage into account independently
of the the remark not yet released.
