With the third cello suite available on a more recent (and spectacularly successful) Channel disc, should I feel the need to pick up this recording?

If you don't have the other Britten suites, then I definitely would get it. It is an absolutely splendid disc. I am wondering if the recording of the third suite on the Shostakovich disc is new, or if it is the same as on the Britten disc. For comparison, the timings of the third suite are:

Intro: 3min12sec
Marcia: 1min50sec
Canto: 1min14sec
Barcarola 2min11sec
Dialogo 1min41sec
Fuga 2min21
etc

My problem is the reverse ... I have the Britten SACD, and have Shostakovich 2 with Maisky on CD, and am now pondering whether to pick up Wispelwey's Shostakovich :)

Indeed, an excellent recording. --And as with the Bach Suites for Solo Cello, one can listen to the whole Britten cycle as a single work of art (owning one just one would be a tragedy).
