This should be a keeper; the Morales...IF...it is his Requiem from a few years back with male voices and subtle viols, is one of the most darkly beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

Referring to the JPC site, this appears to be a DDD recording from 1991/1992. Accordingly, it was most likely recorded at a resolution of 16 bit / 44.1 kHz, and if so, there would be no gain from having this in the SACD format. AliaVox/Savall have re-issued a number of such early digitals on to SACD ... some of which I bought not realising that they were not new high-rez recordings. Compared to their new recordings, the old ones sound drab and digital ... and on listening, I headed to the box to check out why that might be so ... only to discover that it was recorded ... like this one seems to be ... in the early 1990s.

Caveat emptor.

Perhaps it's low-res, but the OOP Morales goes for big $$ used on Amazon, (some people really like the music), and ironically the SACD will be more affordable for me. Actually (I could be wrong), but I don't believe *any* of the music is "recorded" at 16/44; that just what it has to be "squeezed down to," to fit on CD. There should be some improvement. Not to open a can of worms, but Alia Vox people are very careful about the engineering, which goes a long way with regard to making a CD tolerable, even enjoyable.
