Thread: SACD on a Denon receiver

Hi.

I have a Denon 2900 dvd player and Denon 3801 receiver.
They are connected today from the 5.1 analog connection at the Ext input on the receiver side.
From what I understand the analog output from the dvd is transfered again to digital samples in order to enable digital bass managment.
My questions are:

1. Is there a way to disable the bass managment and the retransfering the already analog stream to digital?
2. Why will the Denon link is better for SACD , is it because it reduceses the losts of data on the transfer from the dvd to the receiver or is it because it reduces the amount of times the data is trasfered from digital to analog and visa versa?
3. Will changing from Denon 3801 to Denon 3805 produce better sound on SACD records that today is not very impressive.

Thanks

Are you sure? I think the player would have to convert the DSD to 176.4kHz PCM for bass management, but not from analogue to digital and back again.

If he is using the 5.1 analog inputs, then it will definitely do an A/D conversion for the Bass Management (not to mention the D/A stage going from DSD to analog within the DSD player). If he switches to using the Denon Link he should be able to skip the additional A/D and D/A stages made necessary by using the analog inputs (though I am not an expert on Denon Link - I use firewire - aka i-link - on my Pioneer receiver).

"the analog output from the dvd is transfered again to digital samples"

The player is doing DSD>Analogue, then the amp Analogue>PCM>Analogue which gives is "analoge to digital and back again£

Right - so if you have to use bass management, wouldn't it be better to do it with the 2900 and skip the A-D conversion in the receiver? (I don't think Denon Link or Firewire is an option with the 2900.)
