Just a few first impressions and some details about this issue. The booklet subtitles Three portraits with Rememberance/evocation.As yet Im still non the wiser? It starts with younger brother Rudolfos " Suite for orchestra" (12mins) which is slightly reminiscent of Stravinsky Pulcinella and Prokofiev ?.Followed by 5 short varied pieces for singer and orchestra that once again is reminiscent of Canteloubes masterpiece.(8 minutes) Followed by Elder brothers 4 Portugese songs which are more varied and deeper curiously in a "spanish"way? (10 minutes)Neither bear much resemblence to the later Mexican compositions. Next a composer change Julian Bautista 3 songs deeper and probably orchestrally the most interesting.(12 mins)Some hint of Falla in one?.His last work. Finally same composers orchestral Sinfonia breve a more serious deeper work for smallish/medium orchestra.Finishes with a lively Allegro.21 mins. A curious and pleasant small scale mixture.Cannot see anyone else competing with recordings of these unusual and rewarding works.Super recording and excellent singers voice with top quality playing. Hope this helps.
BTW, all nineteen cuts are available for preview at Amazon.com. Sounds quite lovely and the recording [which is mc/stereo] sounds full throttle. It's just wonderful to have independent labels release in the SACD format.
