I'm new to this format. Is there a general agreement here that there is a perceivable difference listening to SACD as opposed to CD? In other words, is it likely one could choose the SACD over CD in a blindfold test?

just curious.

We just had a long thread on the same subject. I suggest you read this.

In this forum I would say there is.

I think Zeus refers to this thread: /showthread/46971//y?page=first

There is no perceived difference between MP3s and CDs. So buy an iPod.

What tosh! There is a massive difference between the CD and much poorer quality MP3 sounds. You only harm the promotion of SACD by making such provocative comments about other formats. There is a difference between SACD and CD sound, but it is subtle. The most obvious difference is in a greater sense of the surrounding room in which the recording is made and a greater precision in placement within the sound stage.

Absolutely!

Massive difference between an ipod and cd. The compression alone makes mp3 a noise-filled pain in the rear. Of course, many cds have also been "cooked" in the recording process and are a pain to listen to.

This statement are outrageous and show you are not a audiophile, maybe you have hard ears or an extraordinary RedBook CD player.
In my experience the difference is huge, and instantly audible with well recorded SACDs.
This is the first post of this audio friend, please lets not confuse him with negative opinions.
The SACD format is real the best sound format avaliable on the planet, except the real master tape.
Regards,

What is it so confusing? Some people can't tell the difference. That's called opinion.

You may have reason on this. It is hard to believe one can see a small difference, it is so obvious and huge to me.
If the difference was small I do not put my hard money on it, and Iam very picky.
Just for this great sound quality SACD format is alive today, without support from Sony/Philips.
