Aside from the sampler disc that came with the player, my first SACD's were the CBS/Sony reissues (Szell, Walter), which I thought at the time had never sounded so good. I also obtained a few of the Telarcs from those heady first days, including the Dukas/Cincinnati album, the Turina/Debussy/Cincinnati album, and the Hovhaness Harp Music album with Yolanda Kondonassis.

Nice story, Adam. Actually, I started with SACDs and only later got into DVDAs. And glad I am that I did. There are many fun titles with excellent discreet surround sound. And although most titles are now OOP, I am slowly acquiring reasonably priced ones that I come across. I often check the reviews and comments (including yours :) over on QQ, which along with this site, has been immensely helpful.

My pleasure Brett :-) You certainly did the right thing going with SACD first and DVD-A later! I'm glad you're still able to pick up OOP DVD-A's, they've held heir value somewhat over the years though not as much as so many OOP SACDs, prices for a number of old SACD Surround titles have gone completely through the roof!

Well... I could give a one word reply and say... REISSUE.

It seems to be a trend these days.

Although it's not really my thing, audiophiles certainly do love collecting all of the different reissues of the same music. One good thing about this is that it allows people who missed out the first time around another chance to buy recordings at more down to Earth prices.

Hopefully, we will see those older SACD surround titles reissued as a download version or... or... (Dare I say?) ...even again on SACD. I know. I know. Wishful thinking ;) Anyway, the multiple SACD reissues of Bitches Brew, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc... give one hope that music labels will reissue some of the SACD surround titles that are difficult & expensive to acquire... instead of just titles that are already readily available.

I was vaguely aware of DVD-A and SACD, but I picked up "So peaceful, simple and strong" by Seigen Ono while in Tokyo because of the artist. The liner notes had an explanation of SACD and the approach used for the surround layer. This had me intrigued and soon I was hooked...

Otto Olsson Requiem. And, that was before I had an SACD player, but it tipped me off that there was such a thing as SACD. One thing led to another.

Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, and that was simply because I wanted to buy it on CD; it was another couple of years before I had an SACD player and heard the m/c layer lol. Fwiw, I fell in love with it originally via cassette :)

Same situation here, though in my case I think the disc in question was one of these:

Prokofiev: Cinderella, Ravel: Ma Mère l'Oye - Argerich/Pletnev
Rameau: Une symphonie imaginaire - Minkowski
