I'm not Dutchman, but I'm at least curious!

Hi Bruce,

I think we got a notice about this a few weeks ago, but thank you for grabbing our attention with the official sales opportunities.

According to the Oehms website, a complete Tchaikovsky symphony cycle will be recorded by Kitajenko, all to be released on SACD

I wonder if he conducts Tchaikovsky like he does Shostakovich?

I'm not sure the qualities he displayed in the latter would transfer as well - though in Manfred his approach may pay dividends.

Just curious - how would you characterize his conducting of Shostakovich? I have the complete set but I am far from an expert on Shostakovich. For Tchaikovsky I prefer the intensity of Mravinsky.

I have both his Shostakovich (SACD) and Prokofiev (non SACD) sets and I am very positive about both. I certainly would not say that the range of performances is consistently the best but both sets are of very high quality (performance and sound) and the orchestra does remarkably well. For almost any given one, there are alternative, preferable performances from the big names.

Consequently, I welcome his Tchaikovsky where, I believe, he will supply adequate intensity. What I am curious about is whether he will supply the adequate litheness and grace when needed.

i have the shostakovich and i agree with kal. the combination of performance/sound is very satisfying. i will buy the manfred on that basis.

He does tend to be heavy handed with his Scriabin (for those that know that set).
