I wonder if anyone is able to throw any light on the following SACD?

For a while now, in my ever present task to find new hi-res music, I have been considering buying the Herbie Mann "Eastern European Roots" SACD, particularly as it's on offer on Amazon UK at a good price, i.e. it's worth the "risk".

If, however, I enter any of the sites listed here (using this site of course), none of the online sellers lists this as an SACD - or not that I can see. I have already contacted one of the UK Amazon Marketplace sellers, and they feel sure that what they have to sell is just a normal CD.

Any thoughts greatly received.

As they were pressed in limited supply, I also had the misfortune of being presented with a RBCD when it was advertised as an SACD. And to be honest, I haven't seen this album advertised as an SACD on any of the websites I frequent. LOL.

I bought mine from Acoustic Sounds, as it was the only site to promise an SACD. And it was indeed an SACD. It is possible that the same UPC was used for both CD and SACD. It is more expensive $24.95 http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/8844/Herbie_Mann-Eastern_European_Roots-Hybrid_Stereo_SACD

It has very beautiful sound and soul-touching music with a definitive Jewish influence.

They are also on different labels, the SACD is on "Herbie Mann Music" and the CD is on "Lightyear"

Thanks Ralph and Teresa for your input. Thanks particularly Teresa for your brief thoughts/feedback on this album - and the link to Acoustic Sounds. Perhaps I'll have to order it from them, although I just noticed that their minimum order value for orders outside USA is $50.00. I'm sure I can find enough hi-res albums to spend my money on to make up to $50.00, but I could just keep spending!

Interestingly enough, since making my post on Friday, I have Google-d "Herbie Mann Eastern European Roots SACD" and actually found it listed on Amazon UK, albeit no longer available/not in stock.

I was tempted to ask for some feedback about this disc, but to ask the simple question what people think of an album sometimes seems far too simplistic - silly almost. What one person considers to be "good" or "nice" music, is absolutely dire to someone else. I don't particularly like British/Irish folk music, and generally wouldn't consider myself to be a great fan of any folk music. About 10 years ago, however, my wife introduced me to some music by the Vujicsics Ensemble. If anyone is unfamiliar with this group, you may have heard rather of Márta Sebestyén - whose singing featured in the film The English Patient. Anyway, the music on the CD I have by Vujicsics Ensemble is Southern Slav folk music, which I find very enjoyable. The same goes for the group Söndörgő, who are, like the Vujicsics Ensemble, also Hungarian. I can't quite remember how, but the two groups are somehow related. I've also grown to like some of the Klezmer music by Hungarian musicians. For a couple of years now, I've been tempted to buy the Romanian Folk Music DVD-A from Aix Music. My wife doesn't think it'd be quite my taste in music.

If anyone has any more feedback to give on the Herbie Mann SACD, or this Aix DVD-A, I'd happily hear from them.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't just use the information already provided on this site?

Stephen,

It appears that all are not SACDs through this site's sponsors and for that Teresa's information does give us a site where it can be found. I looked around for this today, too, and could not find it other than as a RBCD.

Is there any reason to think the linked disc isn't a SA-CD?

Well, normally yes, but as Teresa pointed out, SACDs were released on a different label. I checked each link and all appear to be from the label noted as being an RBCD.

This doesn't jell with the available online information. Maybe someone who has the SA-CD can post the barcode so I can sort it out.

Zeus, I sold the SACD years ago, but if I remember correctly it does not have a barcode. I think Acoustic Sounds is the only source for the SACD version which is in a small-hinge super jewel case. All the pictures on the linked sites have the wider digipak case indicating the CD version.

Also the SACD is on Herbie Mann Music and the CDs are on Lightyear, hope this helps.
