Alexander Lazarev is a fine musician who has made a number of excellent CDs with the RSNO, and has been their principal conductor since 1997.
Linn, unlike LSO Live, should be able to give us excellent sound in a sympathetic acoustic. Like John, I too look forward to its release.

I guess one possible downside is that the RSNO isn't the LSO, and I have to say that some of David Lloyd-Jones Bax symphony discs on Naxos have been spoilt for me by the orchestral playing where the strings, in particular, seem to have struggled to meet Bax's demands!

Two recordings of the 11th. and we haven't got the 10th. yet! Though I should never complain about SACDs being released!!
Cheers

mdg has a 10th on DVD-A if you are an equal opportunity high-rez listener. We really a 1st symphony. There are none of those in true high-rez.

ugh...

Kofman's has to be the most boring Shostakovich cycle of the current on-going series (including Kitajenko on SACD for Capriccio, Gergiev on SACD for Philips & Caetani on DVDA for Arts Music). Kofman's recording of the 10th is so bland, slow and impactless, it's hard to even describe, so allow me to link elsewhere:

The mdg sound is certainly warm and pleasing. But it's so totally unsuited to the Shostakovich sound world that it ruins the whole thing. It's too distant, reverberant and Church-ey... might work wonders for Bach or Mendelssohn, just doesn't work with Shostakovich.
