I decided to finally try the SACD format because the format was supported by the Sony Blu-Ray player I purchased. I bought the Dark Side Of The Moon hybrid SACD/CD as my first purchase. Whenever I attempt to listen to it, the audio skips and "jumps" in and out. There are occasions that a track will play for a good 15 seconds or so before this happens; other times it is constant throughout the track. The receiver has handled everything and should be compatible with SACD. I would appreciate any help from the forum.

Receiver: Denon AVR-591
Blu-Ray Player: Sony BDP-S570
Connected VIA HDMI.

Many thanks,
Adam

Buy or borrow another SACD to see if that skips also?

Try switching off all sound processing on the Denon, unless you have done so already.... it may be some Dolby process or other is interfering with the sound.

First, this AVR cannot play DSD, so make sure the Sony is set to output PCM from SACDs.

Second, take a look at your settings for HCMI Control. These settings and your TV can interact with other functions in unpredictable ways.

I found strange behavior using the same Blue Ray player for SACDs with HDMI audio only playback when the TV is not turned on. Even though the order ofthe connection is Blu-ray-AVR-TV, it seems to matter. Be sure that the TV is turned on.

Thanks for the help. I did set the output from Direct Stream to PCM.. and as it turns out the TV has to be off for some reason for it to not skip. All works well now. Many thanks to all of you. Time to expand the library. Many thanks again.

That will often do it. Make sure there's nothing interrupting the link. In fact, some might say take the TV out of the system link entirely.

You may also need to turn off Control for HDMI under System Settings which will stop the chatter between TV and disc player i.e turning the TV on when you insert a disc. You may need to find the equivalent on the TV panel if it has it. Also worth setting Audio DRC to "Standard" under Audio Settings on the BR player. Whatever this does it seems to send Dolby wrapped data when playing SACD's.

I have never heard of that unless one is playing the RB layer of the CD.

Actually the problematic command for me was "Downmix" [Audio Settings]. Needs to be set to "Stereo" "Outputs audio signals without surround effects". If set to "Surround" which is the default it outputs Dolby Surround or DTS Neo:6. Weird, I know, but it solved a problem I had using an HDMI audio de-embeddeder which is only useful for stereo SACD. Audio DRC is dynamic range control and AFAIK affects only BD-ROM playback.
