Recently, I have made some research of SACD disks by means of the new
Italian Amazon. I have found that at present the offer is still limited,
but this SA-CD site could perhaps be a good incentive to improve.

You beat me to it. I was just about to start a thread to ask if Amazon.it contains interesting SACDs.

Here's the SACD page:

Note to Zeus: I'm sorry I couldn't embed a tracking ID for sa-cd.net yet. If I were aware of one I'd have included it. Feel free to delete or modify my entry as you see fit.

Just perused their website. They list approximately 630 SACDs but a lot of them ARE NOT SACDs (from the little Italian I understand). They have a Sony SACD of Tosca by Leontyne Price and the readers input: Not an SACD....same for Weather Report, Heavy Weather on pg. 1 of the SACD listings....NOT an SACD.

For the time being, I'll continue buying from Crochet, Amazon US and UK and take my chances!

Ciao, Scita....hope you found the SACD player you were looking for.

Today, the site shows 228 SACD of classical music, and clearly I am not able to confirm that they all are really SACD.
I obtained this result by making a research limiting the field to "classica" and then writing "SACD" in the blank space.
In this case the disk of Tosca does not appear.

I have found it by making a completely different search, i.e. by making a "ricerca avanzata", and then selecting "super audio CD" as a format, and "puccini" as artista. Strange thing.
In any case, the disk of Tosca, on the back cover shows the DSD label (in the sense of re-mastered, I think). Why do not trust RCA red seal? See:

http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/images/B000B5XZT2/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=412600031&s=music

http://www.amazon.it/Tosca-Int%C3%A9gral-Giacomo-Puccini-Zubin/dp/B000B5XZT2/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1291697749&sr=1-1

I have also read the corresponding review in which the author clearly regrets that the disk is not SACD.
Perhaps some processes, in the re-mastering have been done using DSD technology, while the final format is simple RBCD?
Now I am very curious, thus I will buy it and then I will tell you.

Regarding my search for a MCh SACD player, I have understood that Arcam and Oppo are the best cost/benefit choices.
In any case I will wait until after Christmas for buying. In the meantime, I will try to be content with my Arcam CD37 Stereo SACD player.
The fact is that the passage from Stereo to MCh is much complex, mainly due to the amplification and loudspeakers, especially when you have three
big turntables to manage and maintain efficient to play my beloved LPs.

sc..ita: You may want to consider the newer OPPO BDP~93. It will be priced at US $499 and has many more features than the OPPO~BDP~83. It outputs HDMI 1.4 and will also decode 3D movies and has a USB input.

Also, if you want to make sure a disc is SACD type in the name or artist in the search engine on SA~CDnet and all titles pertaining to that artist/title will be displayed and will also indicate whether the album is DSD recorded and/or multi~channel.

I almost guarantee you that the Tosca with Leotyne Price is NOT an sacd.

Yes, the disk has arrived now and I can confirm: it is RBCD format, but probably some passages of the production process were made with DSD technology.

sc_ita, it is DSD remastered. Sony and probably BMG have been archiving their masters in DSD.......why don't they print up a few thousand SACDs while they're doing this........?????? The Tosca, especially, would've made a welcomed addition to SACD.....Price, Domingo and Milnes + Zubin Mehta.......a winning combination, IMO.

The paperwork has been done but I'm waiting on the XML functionality to populate the individual title links. Meanwhile, I've added a generic link here:

amazon.it is now linked. It will take a while for the live pricing for listed SA-CDs to populate though.

I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to tackle China.

Are half of the titles from there legitimate? I see so many discs of performances that don't seem to exist anywhere else (for sale on eBay) and just the photos and listings make me uncertain whether these are all just fabrications.
