This is an addendum to my non-sacd review of this disk.
I liked the sonics in the car. But, after listening at home, in the sacd player, i can not recommend this disk.
Truly disappointing. Trumpets are buried at the end of the chorale. Tempos do not move naturally.
Music just sits there as if it wants to speak, but doesn't.
My reference recordings are Horenstein, Jochum, Sinopoli, Wand and Karajan.
All of which are not super audio. But, I love them all.
So, if anyone has a good rec for the sacd version of Bruckner 5, scream it out.
(Bosch maybe)

Just a thought: Why would the disk sound acceptable in your car and NOT in your home system? It would seem the opposite. I am sure your home player is superior to that of your car but cars supposedly have a very accommodating acoustic environment so maybe you should try imaging your home speakers better.

Sometimes when I feel my system sounds the best I start moving my room tuning devices around and since my speakers are in a basement environment (thinly carpeted and speakers rest on spikes), there is always a slight movement of the earth (or vibrations from heavy vehicles passing nearby) and I have to re~image them (or what I call fine tune)........ and the system sounds even better.

I was told that sitting closer to the front speakers and somewhat lower is preferable to moving your chair away from the speakers and sitting at a higher position. Of course, when one has a surround system there is also the problem of sitting too close to the fronts and not being able to hear the rears.

And the album is a multi~channel SACD which would really sound different in a very good way on a multi~channel SACD player.

Playing the CD layer (while probably very good) will not give you the true sound on that disc......OPPO Universal blu~ray players that play just about everything, superbly, start at $289.00{US} and that includes SACD playback in stereo and/or multichannel.

What a difference a Haitink makes! Suddenly this world class orchestra sounds exactly that. Not all of their recent BR Klassik performances have satisfied critics or many of us but in the deft hands of this experienced campaigner all concerns are swept aside.

Here, succinctly is the best Bruckner 5 on disc, an automatic first choice - IMHO - one of those that once you pick it up you will not want to put down. Was it really 75 mins?

A recording worthy of Bruckner's best known and (possibly) best loved work. Well done to BR Klassik

Hiredfox-- Thanks for the review. I'm tempted to pick this up, but I have Haitink's RBCD performance with the Vienna PO on Philips. That record has gotten generally good reviews, with some criticism of the Vienna brass at the conclusion of the finale.

Given that, do you think, at least in sonic terms (as Haitink's basic approach, no doubt, is essentially the same), the BRSO performance is enough of a step forward to justify purchase?

If you are listening to the SACD track then most definitely. It is an excellent performance enhanced by a superlative recording (in stereo SACD). I have not listened to the RBCD track.
