You're most welcome, hiredfox.

And here is a review from Intermezzo, with my own little contribution which entirely supports your view of the occasion:

And here's one from the Financial Times by Richard Fairman:

And here is Stephen Hough's Blog. If you scroll down, you will find my entry and his nice reply in which he says:

'The BFO and Ivan have been a complete dream to work with this weekend. From the first E flat in the first rehearsal last week I was inspired by their intensity and utter commitment.'

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/culture/stephenhough/100050684/liszt-the-man-who-invented-modern-music/

And my point?

If hiredfox wishes to say that he thinks Ivan Fischer is a genius, then he has every right to do so, without being subjected to cynical attacks for his enthusiasms. I have provided more than enough evidence here from London's often tetchy critical fraternity to support his case, which actually happens to be mine, too. This was a truly revelatory concert, and it was not only an immense privilege to attend it, it was sublimely joyous from start to finish. As if I haven't got enough Beethoven discs already, I've now had to order Fischer's Pastoral. It would take a genius to make me do that!

Jared - where were you? I came to say hello and only found some grumpy-looking Foyle's person with a handful of discs.

I came by a couple of times to the desk before and in the break. (though late in the intermission because of some social commitments I had to fulfill.)
Sorry I missed you! They are playing this Saturday evening in Dortmund Germany (the Rite of Spring) if you happen to be around. The liszt will also be played by none other than our own Dejan Lazic. It also happens to be Ivan's 60th birthday today!

Windsurfer said:

Frankly I wish you would leave it alone. He has been offensive in the past, perhaps he has tempered his aggressiveness somewhat now. Why don't you do so also. If he resorts to his old demeanor, let Zeus deal with it...rather than continue these off topic attacks you are indulging in.

I don´t get it windsurfer. I reacted when Ivan Fischer was declared a genius simply because I don´t think there are any conductor geniuses. I mean, if he is a genius, what does that make Beethoven? And I honestly thought the praising of Fischer was verging on the ridiculous. I´m not at all against enthusiasm, on the contrary. Last night I heard a new piano trio by a young Swedish composer and I stood up and shouted bravo when it ended. I was alone at home, but really overwhelmed by the music.

Let it also be known that when Ivan Fischer released his first records on Philips I wrote a very favorable article about him in a large newspaper.
