Guss I need to spend $. Either a new rec or an sacd with analog out. Any comments on yamaha bdp-a1000? Plays everything. Sad, I only gave $75 for sony bdp-s470. I needed backup for my 5 yr old toshiba. Thought sacd was dead. Glad to see otherwise.

Why not a newer receiver with HDMI? Takes care of this and other problems.

Will upgrade make it work? Or do I need analog 5.1 or new hdmi rec.

I am not sure what you mean by "upgrade". Repeating myself, for hi rez from SACD, you need either HDMI or analog. That is true for either stereo or Mch. It seems that your player puts out HDMI but not analog, and your receiver accepts analog but not HDMI. So, if hi rez is what you want, something has to be replaced. There is no fix short of this.

Yes, the Oppo 93 is a good machine. It is just as good on HDMI as the pricier 95, but the 95 is better on the analog outputs. You might be better off, though, replacing the Sony AVR. They all accept HDMI these days.

Very simply, the original poster's best option is to get a receiver that has an hdmi connection. And if they want sacd to analogue, get a receiver that handles a dsd feed with no conversion to pcmcia.

Then it can not be a Sony because all current Sony receivers convert to PCM. As the unkown model No. player is a Sony then it is best for compatability to buy a Sony receiver & if buying a new TV also chose a Sony to obtain again compatible HDMI control.

I've always been very fond of the PCMCIA interface but I doubt we'll ever see it featured on a receiver (other than a satellite receiver).

BTW, you know what PCMCIA stands for, right? People Cannot Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms :)
