Robert, you must stop releasing Gluzman and Litton discs it's costing me a small fortune. Damn! That's another appointment with my bank manager

VERY Happy to see Gluzman again. However, .... Shostakovitch #1, Beethoven, Sibelius, Berg, Schnittke #4, Britten, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Brahms ... you know?

But if this Bruch is sufficiently impassioned and in the great sound BIS has been giving us of late I am churlish to complain.

Well it's a good thing Fanfare won't give Walter Simmons a Bruch collection to review or another zinger would be headed Robert's way. I'll happily buy the Bruch, but I agree, let's encourage Mr. Gluzman to be a little more adventurous. How about Rubbra, Joachim 2, Diamond 2, both of George Lloyd's, or for a real adventure a coupling of the Sibelius with Ragnar Soderlind's op. 46.

Wow Bill you are adventurous!

Well Bruce it's easy to be adventurous from the depths of an armchair. I'm not the one who'd have to learn the Soderlind with probably zero possibility of performance beyond the recording project (or the one who'd have to pay for recording it with probably zero chance of making back it's costs). Pity the poor artists, they get pilloried for playing nothing but standard rep but have very little chance of performing anything else with our major orchestras. I guess if you're Hilary Hahn and you get Jennifer Higdon to write you a piece you can get it performed, but otherwise it's the standard rep over and over.

If it were SACD only, it could contain Shostakovich, Berg, Schoenberg, Schnittke, Britten. and a few others!

"Vadim Gluzman must be one of the two or three finest violinists currently active, and we can only hope he stays loyal to BIS and doesn't waste his talent at one of the so-called "major" labels."

David Hurwitz

I guess you could call this a positive review. ;-)

bissie

I am a little disappointed Scottish Fantasy is not included on this disc. Any chance we might see that on a subsequent recording?
