Anyone heard this one yet? I have the original SACD version from 5 years ago or whenever, and though I love much of it, including the generous bonus tracks, all of which are on one disc, there are mistakes galore. And, of course, that 2003 or 2002 (I'm getting old) stereo mix doesn't include the guitar overdubs on "My Generation" and "Legal Matter," as the overdubs were reportedly recorded direclty onto the mono mix. Or something. So I'm wondering if the new Japanese SHM-SACD does, somehow, include the guitar overdubs, and if the mono version of "Circles" is the version that appeared on the "Ready Steady Go" EP, and so on.
Cheers!

2002 or 2003 and you're getting old? My God, I'm in my grave then.

I have it on a Polydor CD from the 90s called "The Who Rarities Vols. 1 and 2." As I guess is pretty obvious, it combines two separate LPs, the first of which goes up to 1968 and the second covering the early 70s stuff not on "Odds and Sods." "Circles" is the opening track. It's in Mono, as is most of Vol. 1.

This had better be worth it - I've just been clobbered for £22 in VAT and 'Handling Charges' by ParcelForce for my order from CDJapan! It would have been cheaper to pick it up from Amazon:-(

It arrived today and I've been playing it loudly:-)

... and you've had plenty of time to listen to it since then :-)
So, updated insights since your review ? Or anyone's ? I'd like to buy a copy of this SHM SA-CD.

Anyone expecting sonic marvels (a la Tommy, Quadrophenia or Who's Next) from this compilation will be sorely disappointed.
I own the domestic release and it sounds just fine but I would probably opt for the SHM~SACD since there isn't much of a disparity in pricing between what AmazonUS is offering it for new or used at the present.

... my plan exactly, for the same reasons. Anyway, I own The Who Sell Out and they did a good job on this one though you can clearly hear the limitations of the original recording, so I know what kind of sonics I could expect from this edition. I mostly wanted to make sure there's no disaster in this. If it's the same than The Who Sell Out (or maybe just slightly inferior due to the fact it partly comes from 96/24 masters), I'd be happy.
