There will be a tribute ahead of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concert this evening by Andrew Litton, Yakov's predecessor as Chief Conductor & Artistic Director at Bournemouth. Andrew is of course conducting.

It will not be quite the fun evening we were anticipating although one can be confident in Andrew's ability to rise to this occasion

Rest in peace.

I'm thinking of buying some of his SACDs. (I have none.)

Very sad news. I love his Pentatone performances. Rest in Peace.

Andrew Litton did the job superbly with great feeling and humility and included "Vocalise" at the head of the programme as his own special tribute to Yakov.

He and the orchestra played their hearts out for the occasion as you would have imagined - simply magnificent

- "Thank You Maestro59".

Better to buy all the symphonies with poems together.

I think that's a good decision Teresa and possibly a collector's piece as well. Everything he has done on disc is in our collection including the 3 Monte Carlo's from last year so the compilation will include nothing new for us but we will buy it anyway bringing a sad completeness to his story.

We were robbed of some of his finest performances from his pomp with the Bournemouth Symphony ever appearing on disc - during his tenure as music director and chief conductor - as Naxos would never sort out a recording contract for him although the BSO was fully signed up.
