After listening to this disc, I'm not sure why DSD hasn't been doing cartwheels over the Opus 3 record label. It is by far the most analogue-like sound of any SACD I've heard (and fully natural bass, too). This begins to approach the sound I remember from my father's $20,000 system when I was a kid. The only problem is that my HD650 headphones aren't good enough for a recording of this calibre. In order to do justice to the purity of this recording, I will have to buy better headphones or some great speakers. Some info from the booklet:

"RECORDING EQUIPMENT:
MICROPHONES: AKG C-24, Vacuum-tube Stereo microphone,
Neumann U-89 (For accoustic bass).
MIXER: Custom built, vacuum tube design.
ANALOGUE RECORDER: Telefunken Magnetophon, M-28C.
TAPE: BASF SM-468."

This is the sound I always dreamed about but thought I'd never find. Thank you, Jonalogic! You have made my day. I look forward to buying many more SACDs from Opus3.

Ernani71 I am one of the "8 of 8" that recommend this SACD, also check out Tiny Island

I had three Erib Bibb SACDs before I quit SACD and set up an analog-only system, I even sold my TV. I went to LP, reel to reel and cassette only. I came back to SACD about five years ago as I missed my Telarc SACDs, I also now have a TV again.

I only repurchased one Eric Bibb/Rory Block/Maria Muldaur: Sisters & Brothers in spite of it being a PCM recording because I liked the music the best. In addition I can really "hear" the wood of the acoustic guitar (I'm a guitar player) and the voices, piano and percussion sound so real.

I like Opus 3 SACDs and agree they sound very analog-like.

My appreciation for this disc rests with the sonics. But what a difference a day makes, twenty-four little hours! I recently discovered two recordings that make this Opus 3 disc sound downright muddy in comparison. They are the two Marlena Shaw discs released by Eighty-Eight's. But again, it's not so much the musical content that thrills me as the nearly miraculous clarity of the recording (although I did enjoy Marlena more than Eric). If I sold audio equipment, I would use those two Marlena SACDs as demos. Especially on "Lookin'", her voice comes through with an immediacy that I'm pretty sure I've never heard before.

Maybe ,but how does this unknown Eighty-Eight's rip-off price Marlena disc/s sound via speakers ? I know many Hi-Fi enthusiasts none use headphones Quite frankly I can see no point in putting this type of music on to SACD.

Thus, do you think the only music worthy of being on sacd is only music that appeals to you and your taste? As if no one else exists!!!!!

The people who listen to this kind of music do not know the difference between RBCD & SACD and what about the rip-off prices for these discs ?

Funny ,I listen to this music on top quality eqipment and I DO NOT LISTEN to 44.1 Mediocre recordings with limited frequencies ie BIS.
Those frequencies are important except to the frequency deficient listeners known as the Bis milli Brigade
I also monitor the opinions of people who place reviews on both genuine hirez recordings and mediocre stuff..
Therefore I am in a better position to judge than most of the opinionated posters on this and any other genuine HIREZ forums.
I also know the sonic differences on most of the stuff I purchase as I check and measure the ultrasonics and levels of High and low frequency on these recordings.
Obviously "rip off prices " is also an opinion, especially when compared with the cost of going to hear these artists live?

Sorry, I should have said most people You do not list your top quality equipment, do you use thorn needles with your windup Gramophone ?

Pathetic attempt an an insult for someone with antique Kef transmission line speakers which many many years ago I once designed improved crossovers.(Probably for the guy down south England that sold you them.
I once advised someone with that type of gear to go active fourth order to get the best out of their limited performance.I moved on from them about 50 years ago.
Maybe you do not remember as it was at a trade show. LAST CENTURY.

THERE IS NO POINT LISTING MY EQUIPMENT as you would not know enough about it.
Im sure you could come up with opinions based on a system bedecked with Vishay Bulk foil resistors and Black Gate/silmic/Teflon capacitors, shottky diodes.bybee filters ,teflon/silver interconnects, emf cloth, etc along with Townshend seismic sink and heavily modified power supplies, technical earth isolation power supplies etc etc but Im afraid your knowledge, based on wind-up needles is too far away from my up to date reality.
Have you valued the cost of the cheap Chinese components in your signal path.
I doubt it?
Its probably why I prefer full frequency spectrum recordings ?
I even make recordings that way.
