A decent set of Nielsen symphonies has been long overdue. I first read about DaCapo's intentions some months ago, and looked forward to these releases. Now that I know they will be recorded in DXD, not DSD, I'm not quite as keen.

Sorry. But, I take your point. The music and the performance play no role whatsoever. It is only the "magic" of DSD recordings that matters, and you can always judge a book by its cover, or in this case, by its recording provenance.

Good news regarding NY Phil,
but I think we can forget the Berlin Philharmonic.
I had a discussion with a rep from them regarding the low standard of sq at their Digital Concert Hall site. He argued that no one could hear any difference between their streaming sq and SACD or any other Hi Res format.
I tried to the argue that many other big orchestras seem to think differently and find it more important to be presented in as good sound as possible rather than as they do it HD Video quality and low res sound but to no avail.
"Was wir haben ist mehr als gut genug" according to him.
Karajan was one of the most fascinating conductors ever, to actually watch in action ,but Simon Rattle is not,IMO.
I would much rather have the Berlin Philharmonic on SACD than as now in mediocre streaming sound.

The folks running the Digital Concert Hall probably have nothing to do with their recordings (EMI, DG, etc.)

As much as I love to see a decent Nielsen symphony series if this new set is recorded in Avery Fisher Hall I would not be interested in getting this one, I have the LSO Live of 1, 4, 5 & 6 and the acoustics of the hall are too dry for my taste, Avery Fisher Hall despite all the million dollar cosmetic surgeries over the past 50 years is not fit for recording.

Vahe

I believe these are taken from live concerts (from Avery Fisher Hall)
