Oh Dear! Is it me or is this possible the most over-edited and poorly balanced disc of all time. Those who dislike BIG soloists are in for a field day.

Fair do's. I don't have the original vinyl version which may or may not have been the same...

I await other comments but realise this posting alone may ensure there are none.

Nothing surprising really. Despite being an audiophile label, Esoteric has never selected the recordings they reissue based on the recording quality, but rather on the cult status of the performer or recording.

I would LOVE to hear what could be done with an SACD reissue of the Columbia/Sony recording of the clarinet concerto with Robert Marcellus/Szell/ Cleveland (a cult status recording among clarinetists - or at least this one).

The remastered version in the "Szell conducts Mozart" Original Jacket Box sounds pretty good. Obviously not SACD, but what are you going to do?
