Noting mention of Sting and A&M reminded me of this marvellous album, and I wonder if anyone else on this forum knows it?
I guess one could call it a crossover/concept album, featuring a symphony orchestra playing in a sort of early Schoenbergian style, a jazz/rock group and singers like Bill Medley, Paul Williams and Lani Hall. It's absolutely brilliant, in my opinion. It was produced by Herb Alpert, who also sings the last song "All in All"!!
The sound of the LP was superb but, sadly, the CD robs the music of its layering, its three-dimensionality that is so important to projecting the different forms of music, and I'm absolutely certain that SACD would bring that layering back again. It came out originally in around 1977 so it's an analogue recording and should transfer well to DSD.
I guess I could write to A&M and suggest they consider releasing it, although I've written to one or two other companies in the past about similar matters and haven't even received acknowledgements, so I'm not exactly holding my breath.
