I had forgotten what a stunningly well recorded disc this is with very fine performances from the Bergen Philharmonic under Kristian Ruud (pre-Litton era). It was part of a complete cycle by thes artistes. The recent launch on Audite of a new Greig cycle caused me to listen again to the older BIS recordings. There were some real gems from BIS in those heady days of SACD.
Certainly these versions of the Norwegian & Symphonic Dances are far more subtle and enjoyable than the newer head-on full glare versions from Audite.

I just purchased several of the Ruud recordings of Grieg on BIS, including this one, and I am very pleased with both the sound and the performances.

I find Audite SACDs far too up-front and shrill to buy for anything other than must-have repertoire, and like you, the Ruud discs do me fine, with sumptuous DSD sound that is unconstrained cf. more recent PCM-sourced BIS discs.
