A cymbal?

Maybe the combination with the other Nielsen LSO cover can solve the mystery

I don't own any LSO Live SACDs, but I'm getting the impression that the Barbican acoustic is a permanent problem. I'd love these works in SACD (while not wishing to part with my Blomstedt/SFSO RBCDs), but the Barbican factor suggests waiting for future alternatives.

Downloaded and zoomed, I'd go for some kind of percussion instrument. It doesn't have a rolled edge like a horn bell, but it does have this interesting collar with dentals.

I'll say an instrument in the tambourine family.

From this autumn, leading up to the 150th anniversary of his birth, Da Capo plan to release Nielsen's symphonies and the three concertos on SACD and Blu Ray audio

I have a few LSO Live, their Barbican acoustics are too dry for my taste and I have stopped buying this label.
My favorite LSO Live is Mahler 8th w/Gergiev, recorded in vast acoustics of a Cathedral, this is my kind of sound, a spectacular recording.

Surely you are missing the point entirely? This series is called LSO LIVE for very valid reasons. By recording live subscription concerts that are effectively paid for by audience and sponsors the massive cost of setting up and recording quite separately in studios at Watford Town Hall or Abbey Road is avoided; thus the LSO can continue to bring us an extensive and impressive range of new recordings of the central repertory which other wise would never be possible in today's financial climate.

I could understand the rejection of individual discs on performance grounds alone but to slavishly follow a mindset of a 'non-ideal acoustic' - a charge that is in any case vastly overstated on this forum often by people who have never been inside the place - is quite frankly ridiculous and self defeating.

Not only are you denying yourself some very fine artistic performances but also worse, if LSO Live does not get the support of you and others like you they will soon be unable to record at all and then where would we be?

That LSO Live persist in using DSD and the SACD format does them very great credit indeed and is an acknowledgment of the needs and loyalty of those audiophiles who still pursue the goal of excellence in sound recording.

Stop being a bigot man and get out there and buy some!
