Bissie - I think the cover submitted for BIS-SACD-1890 is incorrect.

Oh dear!! I would tend to agree with that opinion, but I feel quite sure that I did enter the correct one. I looked at it after entering, at least I think I did.

Well, the problem is that I cannot change anything - el Sistema doesn't make that possible.

zeus, what do we do now??? Can I send the picture to you?
And can you please fill in on 1867 that it is released and thereby complete it?

Robert

To those submitting titles to the database:

Would it be possible to submit the title in a way that makes it appear in its correct place in the library? If I am not mistaken, the title determines an entry's place in the library (someone correct me if that's wrong). Two random examples:

BIS's new SACD of music by "Édouard Lalo" (thus the title) will inevitably end up under "E" in the library. "Lalo, Édouard: Concertos" would be preferable. Similarly, instead of "Stephane Deneve conducts Debussy", which may appear under "S", "Debussy: Orchestral music / Deneve, RSNO" would have been preferable.

Thank you!

The title here generally reflects that used by the creator of the disc, not something that is necessarily designed to sort properly in one's library. For the latter I added a search facility and the work index.

Dear Cicero,

that is an excellent point, one, which I will adhere to in future, unless the SACD has a specific title of its own, like "A Summer Evening" or similar.

Thank you!

The problem with the organization of titles has been pointed out a few times before, including offers from members to help Zeus correct some of the worst offenders. Unfortunately, like every other useful suggestion here, to no avail.

The advantage of the "Library" is that it's a convenient visual tool, just like displaying your collection on a bookcase, which is also useful when trying to choose what you feel like listening to. But who's is going to find anything when Boulez Conducts Ravel is filed under Boulez instead of Ravel? Or when The Complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas - Peter Takács is under "The"? OTOH, the library's search and work functions are not visual tools, require multiple steps and serve totally different purposes, which quite frankly, I never use.

Instead, I've been using a home-brewed library, visually based as well, flexible and so very simple to create. Just copy and paste images of the covers (one by one) in any Word document or email blank page, then organize them around to fit any criteria, composer or performer. As an added bonus, the whole collection fits one single page.

The reason behind this is that Zeus (& others submitting info to the site) are reflecting what the record companies themselves give as the title for their discs.

For browsing, have you tried using the "Search" facility on the "Show" drop-down list of "My Library"? That returns all discs with, say, Ravel on the disc whether listed in the title or not* - how good is that?!?

*: providing enough detail of the works are known for them to have been added by Zeus or myself.

You can now rename each and every title in your library however you like and they will sort accordingly. Select the titles you want to change and click on "Rename selected". Only you will see these changes though and only in your library.

Thank you so much for this useful new feature! And as a time-saving tip, it's possible to rename multiple titles at once just by flagging them all.
