Vadimar Askkenazy's Aussie orchestra has now moved from Exton to their own label but very sadly have elected to issue only RBCDs.

Since the artists are supposed to have last word on the artistic and recording merits of recorded pieces before finalisation one cannot help but wonder why the great man has not noticed the huge loss in quality of this step back in delivery vehicle. Was he maybe listening through an MP3 player in his hotel room?

Time surely for Zeus and Polarius T to explain once again about SACD to their local own label?

Are all Exton SACD?

I've heard the Elgar Gerontius - terrific performance.

Exton have had a varied history. Their website indicates the availability of CD and SACD but I have not encountered any CDs in the UK - but most Exton and sister label discs do not travel outside Japan because of a seeming lack of effort on the part of the label to set up and support an international sales network.

Much of the recent debate on here has focused on the demise of the 5 channel layer from new recordings, most now being so-called 'HQ' stereo only. These sound very good indeed of course to a Stereo fan.

MDT in the UK list a fair number (30+) of Exton titles (some CD as well as SACD) and Europadisc UK also have a few. Crotchet list over 50 but at a slightly higher price.
