Well, Snoop, when I read that this disc or that disc sounded dreadful and from first hand experience I am not at all disappointed (well, maybe initially before treatment) then I would really start to wonder if those shiny pricey discs out the box need some type of assistance.......which I am willing to give them.

Why put a disc on e~bay because of what is perceived as having poor SQ when, in reality, a little "work" (and WORK is a dirty word to some......so many lazy, lazy, lazy people out there) will benefit the SQ of said disc?????????????

And it works remarkable wonders for Blu~Ray SQ and PQ, as well!

Snoop, you can have all the fine wine and truffles when the work is DONE and thus admire the fruits of your labors.

One of the strangest discs I own is the Telarc Mussorgsky Pictures At An Exhibition, which Teresa is ecstatic about.

It seems to sound very quiet so I have to turn the volume up more than usual, yet even though it's sounds quiet, the meters on my Nagra amplifiers are indicating more power output than any other disc.

Very unusual and I don't play it now because I'm worried about my amps and speakers being damaged by it. Headphones only if ever again.

Maybe it just has a very wide dynamic range and very deep bass, but I'm giving it a miss now.

PS. Haven't had any weird experiences with other Telarc discs.

Lain the MFSL LP has excellent bass and is one of the best sounding MFSL's IMHO. I didn't get The Moody Blues: Days of Future Passed because I didn't want all the worthless (to me) extra's spread over two SACDs when the album is only 42 minutes long.

Not necessarily the worst, but this one never worked for me (harsh sound, close-up perspective):

Hans-Werner Henze: Symphony No. 8 - Stenz (Henze/Stenz).

There are many others I do not much care about, even though they are not necessarily bad-sounding. But I miss a realistic front-to-back perspective in, e.g.,

Bach: Keyboard Concertos 1 - Hewitt/ACO

Bach: Keyboard Concertos 2 - Hewitt/ACO

Shostakovich/Shchedrin: Piano Concertos - Marc-André Hamelin

where I find the soloists unduly spotlit and the ensembles relegated to the background. But then, others here have raved about these recordings, and anyway I would not call them "the worst I own".

The worst to me is the Hyperion Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos set.

Nagraboy yes Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition etc. - Järvi is my favorite recording of all time. Unlike emaidel I love all the Paavo Järvi recordings and find none of them muddy or excessively bass-heavy in my system or any I heard at CES or T.H.E. Show, instead I find them very realistic with warm, deep bass like I hear live. I do find Bernstein: Candide Overture, West Side Story etc. - Bernstein excessively bass-heavy but recommend it nevertheless.
