What is the 'The Catalogue' / 'Der Katalog'?
Digitally remastered German and English versions of Autobahn, Radioactivity, Trans Europe Express, The Man Machine, Computer World, Electric Cafe, The Mix and Tour de France Soundtracks albums which are going to be reissued probably in CD, vinyl and SACD format, separately and in a box set with the original art design. There will be no new material.
See the info page of the official Kraftwerk site.

will these SACD versions of the studio albums be 5.1 or stereo?

Has anyone had any problems with the first SACD in the set?

I received mine recently and decided to play it last night. I put the first disc into my Sony XB940 stereo only SACD player and after what seemed like an eternity, I was greeted with a 'No Disk' message on the front panel of the player. I checked the disc's playing surface and there were no marks anywhere. Taking it out to my Marantz SA11-S1, again stereo-only, I was greeting with a similar message so I immediately suspected that the disc was faulty. However, my brother's XB940 does play it in SACD (although he did comment that he detected a small dropout in 'The Man-Machine"). After recalibrating the transport in my XB940, I was able to get it to play for a very short time but then it stopped and when I opened the tray and closed it again I was greeted with the now-familiar "No Disk" message once again. The CD layer plays right through without a problem. So far I have only played "Radioactivity" on disc 2 and that played fine in SACD.

I am thinking of obtaining (or at least ordering) another copy of the set locally as it will clearly be a real pain sending it back to the UK site that I bought it from. That way, if I have a problem again, the local firm can deal with it.

Any comments are welcome.

All very disappointing. What I did hear of the first disc in SACD sounded mighty impressive, with stunningly deep bass and a great soundstage. The CD layer lost quite a lot of the latter, I felt.

I neglected to mention one other aspect of the set that disappointed me. The fact that one disc sits on top of the other in the only tray. When I first opened the case, I thought only one disc had been included and it took me a little while before I lifted the disc and saw the second one underneath.

Surely, a swing-out two-sided tray could have been used.

Nobody has commented so far, so I guess I have to assume that no one else is having problems with that first disc. Hmmmm....

i was going to buy the DVD, on the basis that the MC mix would be similar/the same as the SACD.

now i think i definitely will, unless someone tells me the SACD MC layer sounds superior.

Dear friends, I got the english SACD version of Minimum Maximum. Anyone knows if there's a german sung version? I ask because the CD version has both languages. Thanks in advance.

I have been looking for the SACD version for quite some time, but I haven't seen it available. Considering how recently it was released compared to some other SACDs, I am surprised at how hard it is to get.

The sound quality on this SACD is phenomenal. With a good suround sound system it compares to some of the Depeche Mode releases in sound quality.

I’m fairly confident that there’s another (or at least used to be) another version, and I feel it might have been a German version. I have absolutely no idea what the difference would have been, because if the album is of the same concerts as the version I have (which I bought late last year in the UK), then I feel there would be (and could be) no difference in the languages.

The version I have has at least 3 different languages on it, those being English, German and Russian. I might be mistaken, but I have a feeling that a bit of Japanese is also present. It’s a really great album, although I have listened to it for a while. I think I’m correct to say that Autobahn is sung completely in German. I tend to forget. Some songs are mixed a bit.

I hope this helps.

It really is a superbly mixed album, and the sound quality is exceptional – particularly for a live album, I feel. I had to hunt around quite a lot for mine, and it’s a shame if it’s not readily available. Perhaps copies can be got hold of on eBay?
