I would bet audience. Come over Fri night and we can watch together. $1300.00 roundtrip.

This is from Wikipedia:

The concert film was originally released in Beta, VHS video cassette and Laserdisc formats, and digitally remastered in 1995. A DVD and Blu-ray Disc version with newly remixed 5.1 DTS-surround mixes were released in May 2010. The new mixes have been prepared by Chuck Ainlay in 2009. The original film itself was digitally enhanced.[5] The song "Love over Gold" is not included in the video (it is included in the DVD and the Blu-ray), just like the original album, but is available on the compilation Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits. It includes a mix of the live band footage with circus spectacle scenes.

The video opens with scenes of the band in a pub playing pool, interspersed with concert clips. Playing over this is the song Saturday Night at the Movies performed by The Drifters. The music changes to the instrumental "Stargazer", from the film Local Hero, over external shots of a sold-out Hammersmith Odeon. The scene switches to the inside of the venue as Dire Straits are announced and walk onstage for the concert. The closing credits again use the Drifters' "Saturday Night at the Movies".

The 5.1 remix of Alchemy was done by Chuck Ainlay who did the superb Brothers In Arms SACD/DVD~A 5.1.

$1300? I remember flying ROUNDTRIP to California from JFK in the 90's for $195....which included meals, snacks, beverages, etc. and plenty of leg room.

Que Pasa?

Inspired by this thread I watched parts of the Alchemy DVD last night. Rear channels are ambience and some audience but the loudest yells from the crowd seemed to come from the center channel. I haven't calibrated my set-up since I made some experimental changes some time ago, so this is not the last word on sound quality. Great concert btw.

I watched all of the Alchemy BD~V and it is actually very good. Yes, a little grainy with video, yes, ambient rears, etc. But a great band doing a great concert.
OMG, they jump up and down so much during the entire concert it is unbelievable. Youth at it's best.

Listened to the SHM SACD of the same. They are just different, the stereo disc is probably sonically better, but the video disc is more room filling, of course, more speakers are working. The ambient rears are better, more immersive than others I have heard.

For me in the end I think I like the BD~V over the SHM SACD just because simply, more bang for the buck.
