Post #469 is the crème de la crème, utmost example of threadcrap that is populating SA-CD.net, for some time now.

Ouch! A good right hook to the chin there!

It's really up to the Eds/Mods to make sure this stuff is filtered out. Several threads on Blu Ray have endured without comment from 'them' above which is a pity. It doesn't mean that we are narrow minded if our wish is to keep this site as purist SACD and certainly no disrespect to the SACD aficionados on here who enjoy both formats.

I think we should not throw the baby out with the bath water. Information about the progress other formats are making and about how the SACD stands up to the competition is quite useful. But, of course, this is not the right place for long lists of new releases in other formats. I would, however, welcome news about hi-rez recordings of works not available or underrepresented on SACD. A case in point is Liszt's tone-poem Les Préludes which DG recently included in a Blu-ray Audio disc, if only in stereo. The only SACD of this work (released by Water Lily Acoustics) has long been OOP.

The SACD format seems to be alive and kicking, but continues to ignore or neglect a number of masterpieces. Chandos deserves credit for its collections of overtures (Suppé, Berlioz). I hope they will continue along these lines. There is much to discover (not just overtures) by Mendelssohn, Rossini, Weber, Offenbach, Brahms, Delibes, Rimsky-Korsakov, Meyerbeer, Glinka, Janacek, etc.

I wouldn't fret, hiredfox. Most of us who gab regarding BD~A discs are still staunch supporters of the SACD format.

We're just hi res zealots who also (in adddition to classical) happen to like pop and rock music as well which has been poorly served by the SACD format.

It seems that the proliferation of OPPO and other Univesal players have extended our capacity to delve into other formats, as well as streaming.

For lovers of physical discs in hi res, the format "sharing" seems a logical progression.

Don't count on APs release dates. Look at Steppenwolf, I pre-ordered that almost a year ago.

I'm with you on that, Tom. According to Acoustic Sounds, there are 125 upcoming SACDs and they even list the two Hall and Oates SACDs (H20/Private Eyes) which seemed to have disappeared from MoFi's own website.

Even the Phoebe Snow upcoming SACD has a new "To be announced" release date.

Just ordered Sly and the Family Stones': There's a Riot Going On, Jazz Samba (Getz/Charlie Byrd) and the new MoFi Basie (without Frank) Live at the Sands from Acoustic Sounds. At the very least I got free shipping and no NYS sales tax.
