Unfortunately a certain Dan Morgan on Musicweb-International (Download round up) isn't very enthusiastic about recording and performance of this new BIS disc. I think I buy it and make an opnion for myself.

I haven't read what mr Morgan has to say but I find the nearly 24 minutes long Fantasie from Die Frau ohne Schatten absolutely wonderful and worth the purchase on its own merit. Rich, ripe, gorgeous Strauss. And although die Alpensymphonie has got some serious competition from Karajan, Kempe, Luisi and arguably some of the best ochestras in the world for this repertoire, both sq and performance are quite good here too imho.
Karajan's Berliner recording is ruined by harsh early digital DGG sound and Kempe's from Dresden is ok sq wise but dynamically limited on LP. Luisi's also from Dresden is both performance-wise and sq wise my Reference for die Alpensymphonie.

Dan Morgan observes that:
"The organ doesn’t always make the required impact ..."
Well that settles it for me..as also evident in their Respighi disc.

Just wondering...how does that settle it for you? You're going to decide based on what someone else says?

What else are reviews for?

In fact, it seems that Links here one-upping what most people would do -- he knows something that bothered him previously and it's pointed out that it's the same here, so it helps make a decision.

Better than spending $15 on something only to dislike it, yes?

I'm so glad life for me isn't only about "big organs" anymore. I'd never have appreciated Kubelik's Mahler....

Unreservedly, yes!

But why trust others, when you can listen to it yourself on at least two legal websites?

And $15 is really incredibly cheap. I wonder whence...
