This SACD has been available in US since last Tuesday. I received mine in the mail this Tuesday. I can't comment on the solo sonata (not my cup of tea), but the two concertos are awesome. The sound stage is closer and clearer than J-Fi's Prokofiev's 1st from eight years ago on the same label with the same orchestra. Ms. Steinbacher is also more forward than J-Fi. I listen is stereo, and the spread and depth are excellent even though it is a studio recording. Instruments are solidly stable in the sound field. Performance-wise, Ms. Steinbacher displays a wide range of sound and color which was more dynamic than J-Fi. Overall, these are passionate performances with tenderness, vulgarity, and humor where appropriate. This is Ms. Steinbacher's best release on Pentatone.

Supported, but I find it on the same high level as her Bartok concertos.

I'll agree in that I've not learned to appreciate the Bartok concertos. That's my failing and definitely not Ms. Steinbacher's.

From Arnaldo review: "I'd love to hear what Steinbacher could do with the Stravinsky and Shostakovich violin concertos".

Me too, but unfortunately Miss Steinbacher has already recorded two Shostakovich concertos for Orfeo some time ago. I'm sure contractual restrictions are still in force to prevent recordings of DSCH in SACD format for Pentatone in nearest future.

Stravinsky's concerto would be most welcome, especially coupled with Schoenberg or Korngold.

3 of 19 people apparently did not find Arnaldo's review of this disc "useful". I wonder why? Do they disagree with the artist's interpretation? -hence disagree with Arnaldo's evaluation of it? Do they agree that this is probably the best performance of this work that anyone is ever likely to hear but find Arnaldo's assessment in some way lacking? I would love to know *why* people who do not find the review "useful" hold that opinion.

It's probably because the review is only for the stereo tracks. Multichannel folks want to know how the thing sounds in 5.1. Hence, not useful. Also, Arnaldo listens via headphones - not useful to some who listen with loudspeakers.

It's a good review, but it fails to articulate the artist's approach to the concertos, next, say, to that of other performers. I own Sitkovetsky's and Mintz's RBCD recordings and know them well, but I couldn't tell you how the new recording, as a descriptive matter, differs from them. And I'd love to be talked into buying this new release.

Fwiw, Steinbacher's performances of the Mendelssohn cto. with the Boston SO a week or so ago got some rather brutally dismissive reviews locally.

Well, that's 2 out of the 3 - lol.

Anyway, what is more interesting to me ... is that ...

Is it not slightly odd that the person who writes this site's most popular reviews ... namely Arnaldo ... is also banned from joining discussions here? Peculiar? No?

You assume wrongly.
