Is there any chance, in this case, Boston Symphony could make their new DSD recordings available on-line?

"It's been a chicken and egg problem for years. However, now that Mytek is producing a DSD USB interface and DAC, and there is at least one software DSD player, the Channel D Pure Music"

IIRC Pure Music doesn't work with Mytek DSD DAC, only Playback Designs DSD DAC's and players.

Hey there, I'm Alex@Mytek

We are actually working with Channel D to have a direct USB DSD stream capability to work with our new DAC. We are hoping that with the release of this DAC there will start to be more music players that support native DSD playback.

Here is some more info on the new product: http://mytekdigital.com/download_library/stereo192-dsd-dac_new_product_release_july_2011.pdf

That I don't know. The BSO however has the capability to do so. I believe it would be beneficial for the people interested to contact the BSO an make there interests known.

He's now launching some of his own recordings on vinyl and maybe this has something to do with this public stance.
Comments?

Absolutely, yes!
Everyone is involved in vinyl matter has interests to see SACD (and hi-resolution in general) won, and Until people continue to buy SACD discs, they always will throw a monkey wrench in the works.

As regards Faulkner, I used to read him religiously in Hi Fi News and Record Review which I regarded as the THE place to be informed. Slowly I disabused myself of this notion and I wonder how I ever got there to begin with. But more to the point, how much of the praise heaped on Faulkner is shall we say "inbred" coming mostly I think from Hi Fi News and their associated rags.

How he can possibly have listened to any of the better PentaTone, BIS, Tudor, Chandos, et al recordings on a decent mch system and come to the conclusions he states is befuddling. One possibility is that the man does not attend live concerts and think about what he is hearing. Maybe all his experience is between a pair of headphones.

I used to respect him immensely - that was my error - now I think he is "nuts".

Tony Faulkner hasn't retired - still going strong. In fact, just recently*, he had something to say about ultrasonic sound and SACD.

I think he does a great job as a recording engineer, and he's done wonders remastering older BBC recordings for BBC Legends, too.

*in the last day or two. Perhaps he looks in on this board.

Some people will probably be disappointed to see there's no HDMI interface among the available inputs. Was there any specific reason as to why you chose to not include it?

Well it would've been nice to have HDMI but its really more for home theater/multichannel. If you've seen the rear panel, then you would see that there really isn't any more room on there to cram any more connectors. Since we are a small professional audio company we focus more of our attention and costs to the sound and towards computer playback, which we see as being more prevalent in the future rather than disc transport playback. Again, we would of liked to have it but the steep licensing costs just don't make sense for us.
