Is there a music app that plays back DSD files on an Android phone, please?

Do those phones have DSD-capable DACs?

Its not an application that makes DSD play back possible. DSD requires hardware. The application collaborates with and controls the hardware. It is unlikely that a mobile phone has anything but a basic DAC and an even cruder analog part. However it is not impossible to create a digital output from a phone to a dock that is then fed into your hifi system from a docking station but I have never seen such a creation. Moreover that is not portable. There are now portable DSD players (i.e. iBasso Audio HDP-R10) and semi-portable DSD capable headphone DACS which can be fed by computer or memory stick. (Fostex).

It is possible to playback DSD files from a software server application (Jriver) over wireless/cell based Internet to a device such as an Android phone or tablet but these will all downsample or transcode to, if you are lucky, 48/24 PCM so the phone can play them back. Its probably only a matter of time through before you can be walking along the beach streaming native DSD over a fast cell phone network to your high end Android based portable music player. Just not today.

Maybe suggest this as a feature to the developers of PowerAmp or Neutron? Pretty sure no application offers this feature, and frankly, I'm not sure any app could without downsampling given hardware/OS constraints.

I'm sure they are are working hard to make mobile phones DSD-capable.

I'm not so sure. And if they do, probably only in Japan (from Sharp or Sony, most likely) -- but models that never reach western shores.

Apple never bought into DSD, Samsung has never been a very enthusiastic supported and HTC may never even have heard of DSD.

My post was just ironic.

Yes, I agree. Nothing would be more breathtaking than hi Rez over a junky low Rez device. The market for it would be huge.

Ah, silly me. I should have realized.

Still, handset makers could get quite desparate to include features that would set them apart as it's getting increasingly difficult to differentiate oneself in the current phone market. Meanwhile, DSD processing ICs are becoming easily available, going by the number of 1-bit DACs coming to market lately.

I just want to be able to transcode DSD in my phone so I can download DSD format files, e.g. from Blue Coast.
