I have seen quite a few reviews for Plowright's first Brahms CD that recommend he should record them.... and hasn't he recorded quite a lot of Romantic concertos for Hyperion - so he already has a reputation for this repertoire. Is there any particular reason why he won't be recording the Concertos ?

BIS works with a number of fine pianists, some exclusively, and Robert's post earlier in this thread suggests that someone other than Plowright is already scheduled to record them. I think very highly of Plowright's volume 1 and am awaiting delivery of volume 2, but I certainly wouldn't turn up my nose at recordings of the concertos by Sudbin, Kempf, Ogawa, Cohen (my own personal choice, if I had one), or Stott, all of whom have made outstanding recordings for BIS.

The "no public comment" from Robert on Sept 19th says to me that there are plans for Sudbin to do the Brahms concertos at some point. I sure hope so!

I'd be very happy about that as well. I was just thinking that with the rest of the Beethoven series and the rest of the Rachmaninov series still to come from Sudbin that if he's doing the Brahms it may be quite awhile before we'd see them, and Arnaldo Cohen is a really fine Brahmsian.

I really like his Lizst Concertos recording on BIS. Wasn't aware that he has Brahms cred.

Alas just because a very fine pianist has recorded some other concertos for BIS before, does not mean they will record good versions of the Brahms.... I think Plowright's particular innate understanding of Brahms would make him the ideal interpreter, as opposed to some others mentioned here.
