How do you search out old forum posts? I am fairly certain I have done this before, but I seem to have lost the skill.

The feature has been disabled as a means to de-emphasize the role of forum and eventually kill it.

You only have to look at the level of discourse on the Tweaker's thread to see why I would want to disassociate myself with it and that such a measure is still under consideration.

Aren't we the grumpy one.

dear stephen,

I totally understand your desire to separate the site from the bile and hatred of people like Flying Dutchman, whose presence degraded this site for over 10 years without action being taken against him. Surely though, getting rid of the forum is addressing a 10% problem and punishing the 90% of posts and posters that are informed and informative. Just take earlier action against the Dutchmen and other
vituperative trolls.

As to not being able to search for posts, that comes under the same category of punishing the wrong posts and the wrong people. I'd like to be able to search for half-remembered posts but am no longer able to. Apparently there's a Google trick for a search that will bring up older posts but if that's the case, then closing off this facility on the site is redundant and is just irritating.

Closing off quarrelsome posts and posters and banning the really aggressive and hate-filled Dutchmen of the world is surely enough without penalising everyone else??

best wishes, paul

I also find it a bit irritating, especially when I am trying to find an old thread to provide some sort of continuity, rather than just starting up a new one.

By the way, the google trick is, ... if you are searching for, say, postings about marantz on sa-cd.net, enter into the google search box:

marantz site:sa-cd.net

Dear Stephen,

may I here agree with nucaleena/Paul above?

When I have access to a computer I go in at least 2-3 times daily. I would find it incredibly sad, if the Forum were to go, as it is a means of direct communication with people that share the same enthusiasm as I do for SACD. Since the BIS Thread is the - by far - most used thread - not only because of me - I would presume that others would agree that it would be sad, if this communication were to cease.

I would like to support the comments of Nucaleena and Bissie above. I understand where you are coming from and the extra workload involved in checking the content of posts for undesirable or personal comments but I think the site would be a much poorer place without the forum facility. There is no harm in threads which are 'tongue in cheek' or supply a little light relief in a hectic and serious world. For most of us hifi/music is a hobby/therapy and view the site as somewhere we can enjoy the company of like minded individuals as well as a valuable resource to further our interest and knowledge in our 'hobby'. In so doing we clearly support format - which was the original aim of the site.
The lack of a search facility is irritating but there is a (rather inefficient) way round that. Folk do not need to read anything they are not in accord with.

Babies? Bathwater?

This is one of the most lively and interactive audio forum's on the net, it would be madness to kill this very productive goose.

The fact that nobody takes themselves too seriously whilst fully respecting the institution and the community should be a badge of pride for you so why the angst? Lighten up old chap!
