I own both the SACD and CD versions of this album. Comparing the two I am convinced the SACD version is vastly better. There's far more air and space around the instruments and the intricate details of the music are far clearer. In comparison the CD version sounds a bit compressed, like the music is just bursting to come forth but cannot. I am speaking specifically of the stereo version as I do not have a multichannel player. If you are a GA fan then the stereo version on this SACD comes highly recommended.

A good album, however there's no real point buying this in SACD format.

CD - Demonstrates a great album as you'd expect from normal CD listening.

Stereo SACD - Offers nothing more than the CD version, whatsoever.

Multichannel - Is again just like the CD and St.SACD versions with extra channels. This album is heavily compressed at all times with the odd twitter or beep sounding better than average.

This is hugely disappointing especially as the artists themselves worked as engineers before making their own music. They have clearly played it save by mixing everything together with minimal seperation and imaging. I doubt any of the sounds have been re-sampled fro SACD.

verdict, buy the CD if it's cheaper, and use Pro Logic II if your amplifier supports it.

Vertigo is the third Groove Armada album I bought. Before I got my SACD player I didn’t even know these guys. So one can say I like the other two albums enough to go for the third one.
As far as I can make out this is actually the oldest recording available on SACD by Groove Armada. Even though it was released later than the other ones.
Like the other albums this again is a mixed bunch of tracks, they are all dance oriented but there seems to be a totally different approach for every track. Pop, rock, jazz, reggae it’s all in there.
There is also a mixed made with instrumentals and tracks featuring vocalists. Unlike the two newer albums there are no “big names” doing guest appearances. But what that does is only prove the quality off the other albums wasn’t there because of the guests attributing, but was purely there because of the guys of Groove Armada. This album is at least as good as the others and maybe even better.

Sound quality is probably as good as one can expect with this type of music. But this isn’t sitting down a listen music anyway, this music is about getting up out of your chair and doing your moves. I thoroughly enjoy this album, the music simple puts me in a great mood.
