agree totally with the previous review....(which was from the Amazon site and has now dissappeared) This SACD (review of stereo only )recording is not as nice as the R Vaughan Williams items issued by Chandos. Who It would appear they have stopped issuing new sacds at the moment.?. .Partly the music I find terse and strained and the clear, tight recording lacks sweetness of tone and is not expansive enough for me ,especially the violins PCM recording ! slightly reduces its already limited appeal...The Michael Berkeley Cello concerto played last on the disc (17 mins) is by the smallest of the BBC Wales orchestras and its the earliest piece. Should have better been presented on this disc first. This would have had slightly more logical presentation.even though his late fathers Symphony No 4 (27 minutes) seems to have been written years later... The centre piece Michael Berkeleys Garden of Earthly delights (21 minutes) is modern and has demonstration type recordings within the work of a saxaphone and trombone part.interesting but not musically involving... obviously I dont think anyone is going to rave about the music or the recording on first play or even after 6 months..Its has more depth that a normal RBCD and is only slightly better TONALLY in parts that this....Im not even sure if I will keep this disc even though thesE are premier recordings. One good thing is the fact that Sir Lennox Berkeleys 4 th symphony (Lento Andante Allegro ) is broken down into 8 tracks as there are 5 short variations within the work. It might have been improved if the Garden and Cello concerto works were similairly split.. Im sorry the first attempt of this review went wrong somehow...Hope this helps .Dave
