Performance:   Sonics:
I was anxious to hear this CD in SACD since I have had the original RBCD for well over a decade, and it is probably my favourite jazz CD. You can't go wrong with a Chesky recording (can you?) and in SACD, it is probably the next best thing to being there at the session.
The SACD layer adds more space & depth to the RBCD recording, giving the already lively performance a little more oomph. The performers are all top-notch and need no introduction here. McCoy Tyner's piano is well recorded; it does not sound a mile wide like pianos do on some recordings. Perhaps because Chesky only uses one microphone to capture all the performers. The resulting sound is more intimate, I think.
If you own the RBCD and like the sound, you may not feel you will get your money's worth with the SACD version because it sounds so good already. But if you can find New York Reunion on SACD for a good price, then I encourage you to get it.

This is well recorded. In regards to the performance, I tend to like modern jazz, so this performance is a little too traditional for my taste. I'm sure that others love it. It might not be fair for me to rate the performance.
