We have so many interpretations of the Requiem on the market that to propose the quite-rare string quartet arrangement from Lichtenthal looks already new and worths listening. After all we will never know how Mozart would have finished his master choral piece, so a 4 strings reduction may even put us back to the fundamental elements of the composition.
Then, the surprise on listening. We're well hearing the requiem we know and don't really miss anything from the original orchestration. Sometimes we even get more... Impressive how ardent is the Diaes Irae, also the Recordare has hardly ever been so intelligible. And the height, the Lacrimosa, listen in particular the salving descendant scale of the violin... (from 2:50), distressing!

This is an astonishingly glorious SACD. Sorry if this is a "one liner"! Heavenly music (obviously), beautifully played and wonderfully different but similar to the choral version. I was a bit suspicious before buying, but I have discovered a treasure.
