Performance:   Sonics:
I have this on the DVD-Audio version, and the sound is stupendous. I have used it as a demonstration to friends of the potential of surround sound. Wonderful rich, punchy sound, tremendous bass and climaxes. The performance is rivetting too.

Performance:   Sonics:
This SACD set was rated highly by HP in The Absolute Sound (issues #152 and 170). I find, however, that the recording is highly artificial. In particular, the microphones on solo instruments are much too close. You can even hear the breathing of the soloists when the full orchestra is also playing. I like the quality of the performance, but the recording quality is unreasonable. So far I have listened to it only in stereo.

Performance:   Sonics:
Swan Lake has been one of my favorite piece of classical music since I was a kid. I have been waiting for a SACD version- finally bought this one from Tower at $13.99. I'm not really impressed by either the performance or the quality of the record. It sound bright overall on my system. I compared a couple of my old CDs and still prefer my old CDs such as Stefan Soltesz/Wiener on Denon 1985. One of the reason I don't like this new SACD set is that I don't feel as involved as the older CDs, especially my favorite Dance espagnole and Dance napolitains. The quality of the CDs doesn't look good, looks like very thin.
