Performance:   Sonics:
You can read my review of Szell's Symphony 2 and 4, and I aplogize for basically saying the same thing, but bottom line, stick with Szell and SACD. I bought both of the Schumann Szell SACDs as I am just getting into SACD (inexpensive player, great music!). I have come to love Schumann, and Szell does Schumann right!

Performance:   Sonics:
Szell and the Cleveland produced a lot of beautiful music, and this is no exception. These performances are ideal interpretations, and the orchestra is faultless. However, the old CBS recordings are brittle, with very little air and quite a lot of harshness in the upper registers of the strings. No amount of signal processing will salvage them, and that's a shame. This is not a good example of SACD sound, but I believe this iteration is probably the best possible from these old recordings.
