This release sounds remarkable, given that it comes from around 1980. The sound is rich and sounds as though it were recorded very recently. Finally, I can hear the trumpet theme in its great piercing clarity, and at the same time hear the strings (especially the violas) very succinctly. The center channel nicely provides more detail to the wind section. The bass is so clean. I love it.

The chamber-music styled subtle tracks gain a lot more atmosphere, and the action tracks have a very nice, dry reverb (natural or artificial, I can't tell) that gives you the impression it was recorded in a somewhat small and intimate studio.

Containing several new tracks that were not on the original LPs from which I first heard this music, this SACD is a must for Goldsmith fans.

I really love this music a lot and it's great to hear this music with more lifelike dynamic range and clarity than ever before. I can only hope that Varese Sarabande continues to release more Goldsmith titles as SACDs.
