Performance:   Sonics:
This album consists of 13 pieces by Cuban composers and arranged by Carlos Franzetti for DíRivera (clarinet, soprano and alto saxophones) plus a band of 10 winds, piano, bass, drums and percussion. The title is an allusion to Miles Davisí Sketches of Spain. The album is thus conceived as a tribute to many of Cubaís great composers. The music is mostly energetic big-band jazz, but there are also some quiet and reflective sections. Overall, the album is highly entertaining, and I recommend it highly

The recording dates from 1995, and the SACD version was released in 2005. It is in 4.0 (or 4.1?) channel surround, having no center channel. The surround channels are used only for ambience. A wonderfully detailed soundfield is achieved, even though I wonder whether the original recording actually included surround tracks.
