These Benda concertos may be the very last keyboard concertos in the 18th century explicitely for the harpsichord. The Dulcken copy Sabine Bauer plays is a delightfully sounding instrument, the balance between harpsichord and strings is perfect. A highly recommended disc for any lover of that neglected period of music which is neither baroque nor classical. The slow movements are very charming - the closest I know are those of the harpsichord concertos by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, but Benda's lack the latter's melancholy overtones, even in minor tonalities. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's, on the other hand, are much more "Sturm & Drang" - Benda's sound more modern without being "classical" in the narrower sense of the word. Some of the best music composed in Northern Germany in the 2nd half of the 18th century.
