Performance:   Sonics:
Gunther Wand was a great specialist of Bruckner. There are several recordings of these works, but the present versions, with the BPO combine, in my view, the outstanding qualities of Wand the interpreter, and the multifaceted sound of the BPO in top form.

Wand was a quite straightforward conductor, concentrating in clear architectural lines (essential in Bruckner interpretations) , carefull orchestral balances (all to important so the brass does not swamp the strings at climaxes), and a medidative approach that does not call for extremes in tempo or rubato.

His performances of these works, during hi last few years of career and life achieved a cult status, both in Germany and Japan, and these discs reflect well these qualities that were so important to his admirers.

The sound transfers are very fine, although, at certain times , I would prefer a slightly sharper definition in timbre.
