The SIMONOV/rpo/CTS Studio is my favourite combination on the Membran discs.

This disc should really have been called their "Demo" sampler rather than Opera Preludes.of which there are just 2.
Starts with excellent Glinka OVERTURE followed by a beautifull large scale DANCE of the Hours and then we get Two Verdi Preludes which probably/certainly most Opera House Orchestras could not match. The real treat of rarely heard Thomas OVERTURE Mignon and you have had more than your moneysworth. Remember this disc was called Opera Overtures..?.... So we follow with Webers Invitation to the DANCE.... Liszts Mephisto WALTZ and Berloiz Hungarian MARCH ..All top quality playing...nicely judged tempos..These are all essentially "Large Big Orchestra" performances.
Its not exactly got competition for most of the music on sacd and is much better than the vol 2 of genuine opera items... If you dont want this disc for the titles then I Suggest you buy as a demo disc to shut up any one who just CD and doesnt believe that high rez is better...Dave
