With this release and I may be mistaken but my ears might not be.......Proprius has recorded this suite of songs digitally. I suspect that dsd was not used but high rez pcm instead. One can tell by a very, very small sheen of harshness and abruptness in the notes. Mr. Gulyas is very talented and his performance is inspiring and well played.

I would buy any sacd he released.

When many notes are played continuously it hurts the ears a little at higher volumes and some compression may have been used. Or it's just that the digital sound is to harsh.

Otherwise the sound is a little on the cool end but very robust and thick. By that I mean in a good way. This is Bach after all and he was no panty waist.

When I compare this Proprius sacd with their other Gulyas spanish guitar sacd...... .the latter is far superior and one of the best sacd's I own. While it's true that the spanish one was recorded in a studio while this one was in a church .....it all comes down to the recording and what system they used to do so. Analogue to dsd, dsd of a live event or pcm.

Still....this is a very good recording all in all. Perhaps a better, more expensive player will mellow out the harshness a little. I don;t want to turn off any lovers of Boroque guitar playing. Especially this good.
