Performance:   Sonics:
Oh Boy! Oh Boy! Oh Boy!

Superlative playing, inspirational in it's subtlety of colours and nuances, cellos are achingly beautiful. Excellent conducting, sensual, finely articulated, precise, flawless. Truly class-leading recording. The best of any Exton that I've heard and a fine testament to DSD. Oh yes, you are there alright riveted to your seat in case you disturb the orchestra by getting up.

I meant only to dip into it last night, ended up missing my appointment so played it twice and then Neemi Jarvi's and Janssons versions for comparison. This is the pick of the bunch for me. Truly mesmeric as only a Russian led performance can be with Prokofiev... and the best disc yet from the Sydney Symphony under Ashkenazy.

If the other future releases in the promised cycle match this brilliant first offering, for every Prokofiev fanatic who feels unloved and starved of affection for too long by the record companies, your prayers have been answered.

There is bad news, I'm afraid but please don't shoot the messenger. This is a stereo SACD / CD only transcription, sorry guys and gals no surround.

And... but hey! don't take my word for it, get on the hot-line to your Japanese supplier before the sun sets over the yard-arm.
