I am not going to add significantly to what has already been said.
This is just to say that I also have the original and I really wondered what all the fuss was about with this album. It just sounded sterile and uninvolving.
This, being the first SACD that I have ever bought as a replacement for another SACD, is another story altogether. It has a great balance, beautiful mids and a nice bass bloom. Ultimately this disc makes music, whereas the original didn't. I want to be clear - we are talking about a big difference. I am tempted to compare this to an '82 CD against a very good modern remaster but that doesn't really do justice.
I am astonished that given the era that the original disc was produced in, they couldn't get a sound close to this.
More worrying is that people have evaluated the format based on discs like the original release and possibly dismissed it. I really would urge people to re-evaluate SACD. I do think 2010 and these (arguably over-priced) releases have really breathed new life into the format.
Life is good - even if one is having to go without food.

This is a great sound single layer, green label, Stereo SHM-SACD for a analogue recording from 1971, recorded live at Fillmore West, the disc package is a four folder hi quality paper assembly, the disc envelope was firm hold inside a space tray, very dificult to pullout, and after out, the disc envelope do not enter anymore in this case. The 2010 liner notes are three pages long, but only in japanese(very useful!!). The live acoustics appear very detailed in this SACD and show a beautiful sound atmosphere, seems there is no compression on this disc, or if there is too little, as I did not feel uncomfortable hearing, there is no tape hiss audible too, great job on the DSD mastereing!! Of course the performance is a great moment in the Flower Power generation, goods times those.
Barcode 4988005614414 time is 78:44 a generous time as Dire Straits new SACD are only 41minutes, and cost the same hi price. For this premium price is lacking more new photos or even some bonus tracks, as a Stereo SACD like this can store 255/260 minutes of music, the photos and disc package follow the original double vinyl set. Great release, very recommended(this is a limited edition release and will no see the day light again). Tracks: 1.STATESBORO BLUES 2.DONE SOMEBODY WRONG 3.STORMY MONDAY 4.YOU DON'T LOVE ME 5.HOT 'LANTA 6.IN MEMORY OF ELIZABETH REED 7.WHIPPING POST
